Welcome to the website of the Surrey Narrow Gauge Modellers. Somebody once said that an interest in narrow gauge is a virus for which there is no known cure. This seems to be very true and particularly applies to us.
The SNGM group consists of approximately 25 individuals of varying ages, who share an interest in narrow gauge railways wherever they are (or were) located. Although primarily interested in modelling in 009 scale, members model in a variety of scales/gauges and share a common interest in all things narrow gauge.
In fact, we are a very varied bunch, from all types of background. Although we are interested in all facets of narrow gauge in 4mm or 12" to the foot scale, we all have a special corner devoted to a favourite prototype - but not all the same one. You will find those whose preference is in Wales - Festiniog or Talyllyn, a group of Lynton and Barnstaple devotees and the odd(!) Darjeeling and Himalaya man amongst others.
Within the group we have a wealth of experience - unusual prototype locos built in plastic on proprietory chassis, somebody who can make chassis and turntable mechanisms work, an electrics guru, buildings from card etc. etc. For any given problem there is always somebody who shares it or has solved it. Advice is freely given - some of it even turns out to be useful! Many ideas emerge from conversations between members.
