Surrey Narrow Gauge Modellers
Open Day 2001: Narrow But Nice

Over the years we have seen and admired a number of 7mm narrow gauge layouts on the exhibition circuit and become acquainted with their owners - in many cases members of the Surrey group of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association. In the friendliest fashions it has been pointed out to us that, despite our name, SNGMs are not the only narrow gauge modellers in Surrey! Leading on from this it was suggested that we should try a joint meeting and from this seed grew Narrow But Nice !

A joint meeting would, of course, require a number of layouts in both 4mm and 7mm scales. Then a venue is required - a nice church hall in Leatherhead fitted the bill a treat. Oh well, better invite any of the public interested in narrow gauge modelling. Yes, a little publicity is called for...

Thus was Narrow But Nice born. Not strictly an exhibition but an open day for all those interested. Well, it turned out jolly well - the atmosphere was great, both on the layouts and amongst the exhibitors and visitors. Some 80+ came from far and wide for our open day and a good time was had by all.

SNGMs must thank our bigger brothers who did the bulk of the organising and also our old(?) friend David Gander who wrote the report. There's also a couple of photos (of no great artistic merit) which give a flavour of the day.
